Outfit Inspired by Father of the Bride

Outfit Inspired by Father of the Bride
If you have been reading Summer Wind for a little while, then you'll know that Father of the Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies. The house, the interior decor, the storyline, the acting, the music- it's all so good.

I consider Nancy Meyers to be a genius because whatever she creates, I LOVE. While films like It's Complicated and Something's Gotta Give are incredible, Father of the Bride takes the cake! Does anyone else just love Nancy Meyers' movies? I am not really one to rewatch movies or TV shows. There are few things I will watch again and again, but all of Meyers' movies fall under the 'watch again and again category'.

I even made it a point while in Paris to go to Le Grand Colbert, which is a restaurant featured in Something's Gotta Give. One of the things that I admire in Father of the Bride is that even though it was made almost 30 years ago, a lot of the outfits that are worn by the characters are still very relevant today. How is that possible? It's because they're all very classic and timeless.

I was watching the movie this weekend and then wasn't feeling well on Monday, so I laid in bed and watched Part II. As I was watching part II, I saw Annie Banks McKenzie wearing the cutest navy dress (as seen in the photo at the top of this post, but you can see another view here). She's very pregnant while wearing it and I just thought that it would look great nowadays on a non-pregnant woman.

So a day later, I was browsing and came upon this dress. Doesn't it look SO much like Annie's dress?! I promptly added it to my cart, so I'll let you all know how it goes.

One thing I noticed throughout both movies is that both Nina and Annie wear minimal accessories. I think I noticed it becuase in today's age of having the 'it' bag, the 'arm party', the right sunglasses, beach hats, and more, a lack of accessories is extremely refreshing.

I got so many outfit ideas every time I watch the movie but more than that, I realized that if I just cut back on accessories, my outfits will look more classic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to burn all of my accessories. I think the right accessories can make an outfit even better, but there really is something to be said about 'simplicity'. What do you think? Do you wear a lot of accessories or do you tend to keep it more minimal?
