Levain Copycat Cookies for Valentine's Day

Levain Copycat Cookies for Valentine's Day

This year for Valentine's Day, we are planning on cooking! We are still brainstorming, but I think we will try out homemade lobster rolls! We have never made them before but my fiancé is a really great cook so I think he will pull it off with flying colors. It's hard to find a really good lobster roll in Pittsburgh and it is one of our very favorite foods so I am excited!

For my contribution to our Valentine's meal, I wanted to make dessert. I have never baked anything except for boxed brownies and break and bake cookies. I'm not really good in the kitchen at all but my sister made these incredible chocolate chocolate chip cookies around Christmas and I have not been able to stop thinking about them since.

They are SO GOOD. They're a copycat recipe for the incredible Levain cookies (a bakery in New York City). They are so rich and chocolatey. The recipe is from scratch so I really didn't think I had the talent to pull it off on my own, ha!! So, my mom came over one afternoon and we made the recipe as a 'practice run' so I could learn.

So today I'm partnering with Walmart to share that I was able to order all of the ingredients for the cookies from Walmart using my Walmart+ membership. Walmart+ launched in September, so I've been able to use the membership for the past several months and love it. It's $98/year and you can sign up for a free 15-day trial before committing. You can also select a monthly plan for $12.95/month. With the one year option, rather than the monthly option, you save $57.40/year in membership fees.

If you have ordered grocery delivery in the past then you know these services usually come with a delivery fee. If you place two orders for free delivery from your store ($35 minimum, restrictions apply) each month the membership pays for itself every month (based on the $7.95 non-member delivery fee). Membership benefits of Walmart+ are dependent on location, so check out their site to see what benefits are in your area!

Besides groceries, Walmart+ has the benefit of Walmart+ free shipping from Walmart.com with no order minimum on items from Walmart.com (excludes freight & Marketplace items).  I needed a silicone baking mat, mixing bowls, and a mixer for these cookies so it was easy to order all that I needed from Walmart.com and it was shipped to me in just 2 days!

Delivery and shipping from Walmart+ has been quick and reliable and it was so nice to be able to order this all online in the comfort of my pajamas!

Baking these cookies really wasn't hard at all and that's really saying something coming from me!! I feel like now that I have done it, I will have no problem making them again in the future.

My recipe notes (this is the advice from my sister that I followed):

- We didn't weigh the cookie dough like it suggests, but rather just eyeballed it and it worked out just fine. The cookies are meant to be just like Levain (which are huge) and we prefer smaller cookies, so we made them about half the size that the recipe suggests. We ended up being able to get 12 on a tray each and they yielded about 2 dozen cookies total with the way we sized them. We baked them for 10 minutes and they turned out perfectly.

- The high-quality cocoa powder makes all the difference!

- The directions suggest using a stand mixer. I don't have one (and really don't want one), so I got a hand mixer, and it worked out just fine!

- The directions say to use a silicone baking mat. I only had one silicone mat but two trays of cookies, so we used parchment paper with the other batch and it worked perfectly, too.

- Next time I think I'd add more chocolate chunks to the dough, especially because we made the cookies smaller.

Thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
